Ad Aware Free Antivirus Review

Posted on 9:36 PM by Unknown

Now that I have left Avast, and I was looking for an antivirus that I had hope in I moved over to Ad Aware which I like much better than Avast because of its clean UI and how they can make it good for the simple and power user. The program has also been going under the largest changes of any antivirus program that I have ever seen. With the beta for ad aware 11 right around the corner one only can question what kind of features that this program will come with. I am signed up for the beta, and when it is released I will be one of the first to start reporting bugs. These are why I have chosen Ad Aware Free Antivirus +.

When you first see Ad Aware you will probably think wow not another windows 8 antivirus. Well that is true the program was designed with a very simple UI without having the tiles that all the other antivirus programs are moving to. You will also begin to think are those all the features that Ad Aware offers? The answer is as of now yes however I have contacted Ad Aware regarding this, and they are planning new features but I did not receive any specifics.

Free Features

Antivirus: While avast tries to over glorify its protection with the different shields Ad Aware has said they cover all of the shields (excluding network shield which is a web shield), but just makes one simple option. They also have set up the protection settings to be at the max level of protection with the default settings, and if they don't then I have show you the best settings in the video above. This program also comes with one of the best anti spyware engines that I have seen in any program. In my testing (I didn't record it) the average cookie detection for Super Anti Spyware was around 160 while Ad Aware Scored with 194.

Protection Level: While in organization testing the program does not score well when it comes to the real world this program seems to do very well and has even caught some malware that Avast, Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro missed. This was AMAZING between these there were 6 engines that could not detect the malware that Ad Aware Picked up.

Gaming Mode: This will block all the pop-up messages that this program gives when it detects malware. Instead, it will automatically quarantine the file so that it won't do any more damage to your system.

Safe Browsing: This is an added toolbar that uses the Blekko search engine and only shows web results that are safe by ad aware. Now this has very limited abilities, and I have contacted Lavasoft about this to see if this will get and update for Google Chrome and an increase in overall effectiveness.

Is This Right For Me?

If you are looking for a program that has the support of the community and is constantly being updated then this is the program that is for you. Not to mention that it was one of the top 10 best antivirus of 2012 and how the program has only been recently revived and reborn into what it is now. The key is patience and support if you give them an infected file they will check it out. Give them and infected link they will check it out and add it. This is the driving force behind Ad Aware and why it is now my number 1 antivirus product,
